QuantRidge vs Wealthfront
An automated investment manager that invests and rebalances for you.
What each one is for
Not wanting to do it. It invests, rebalances and harvests losses automatically for a fee far below a traditional adviser, and for a hands-off investor that is a genuinely good deal.
Running a taxable portfolio with the tax consequences attached — cost basis across every account, wash-sale warnings before the repurchase, harvestable losses, Roth conversion room against bracket thresholds, and a Form 8949 your preparer can file from.
Choose Wealthfront if
You want the decisions made for you and are happy to pay a percentage for that.
We would rather say that here than have you find it out a month after subscribing to the wrong thing.
Where QuantRidge differs
Wealthfront manages the money and charges a percentage of it, so the fee grows as the balance does. QuantRidge manages nothing, holds no custody and charges the same flat subscription at any balance — it is software for someone who wants to keep the decisions.
The thing Wealthfront cannot offer
Wealthfront is a registered adviser operating at scale, so anything it ships has to clear compliance and then apply uniformly to every client. That uniformity is a feature when it comes to safety and a hard ceiling on building one person something specific.
QuantRidge is small enough that one person's problem can become a feature. The Founding 50 is built around exactly that: 50 accounts at $40/month for 12 months, in exchange for telling us what is missing. We build it and you watch it ship. Month 13 renews at $175, which we would rather say here than in a footnote.
Questions people ask
Is QuantRidge a replacement for Wealthfront?
Not always, and this page says where it is not. You want the decisions made for you and are happy to pay a percentage for that. If that describes you, Wealthfront is the better choice and plenty of people run both.
What does QuantRidge cost?
$175 a month for individuals, flat, with a 14-day free trial and no percentage of your assets. A limited Founding 50 offer is open: the next 50 approved accounts pay $40/month for 12 months, then renew at the $175 list price.
Can I run QuantRidge and Wealthfront together?
Yes, and for some people that is the right setup rather than a compromise. What Wealthfront is for: Not wanting to do it. It invests, rebalances and harvests losses automatically for a fee far below a traditional adviser, and for a hands-off investor that is a genuinely good deal. QuantRidge connects to brokerages read-only and does not touch anything Wealthfront is doing, so running both costs you nothing beyond the second subscription.
Does QuantRidge manage my money?
No. QuantRidge is software, not a Registered Investment Adviser, broker or custodian. Brokerage connections are read-only — it can see positions and transactions but cannot trade or move money. Your money stays where it is.
