QuantRidge vs Morningstar Investor
Independent fund and equity research, ratings and screening for individual investors.
What each one is for
Research. Morningstar ratings and analyst coverage are a genuine standard in fund selection, and nothing in this list replaces that body of work.
Running a taxable portfolio with the tax consequences attached — cost basis across every account, wash-sale warnings before the repurchase, harvestable losses, Roth conversion room against bracket thresholds, and a Form 8949 your preparer can file from.
Choose Morningstar Investor if
You want research and ratings to choose what to buy.
We would rather say that here than have you find it out a month after subscribing to the wrong thing.
Where QuantRidge differs
Morningstar helps you decide what to own. QuantRidge handles what happens after you own it — cost basis, tax lots, drawdown, the return. Worth knowing that the free Portfolio Manager many people relied on has been wound down in favour of the paid Investor product, with legacy access kept for some longstanding subscribers, so tracking a portfolio there is not the thing it used to be.
The thing Morningstar Investor cannot offer
Morningstar is a research institution first, and a tool living inside a business that size answers to the business. The winding down of the free Portfolio Manager in favour of the paid Investor product is the example — whatever its merits, it was not a decision the people relying on it got a vote in. That is the standing trade when your tracking lives inside a large company.
QuantRidge is small enough that one person's problem can become a feature. The Founding 50 is built around exactly that: 50 accounts at $40/month for 12 months, in exchange for telling us what is missing. We build it and you watch it ship. Month 13 renews at $175, which we would rather say here than in a footnote.
Questions people ask
Is QuantRidge a replacement for Morningstar Investor?
Not always, and this page says where it is not. You want research and ratings to choose what to buy. If that describes you, Morningstar Investor is the better choice and plenty of people run both.
What does QuantRidge cost?
$175 a month for individuals, flat, with a 14-day free trial and no percentage of your assets. A limited Founding 50 offer is open: the next 50 approved accounts pay $40/month for 12 months, then renew at the $175 list price.
Can I run QuantRidge and Morningstar Investor together?
Yes, and for some people that is the right setup rather than a compromise. What Morningstar Investor is for: Research. Morningstar ratings and analyst coverage are a genuine standard in fund selection, and nothing in this list replaces that body of work. QuantRidge connects to brokerages read-only and does not touch anything Morningstar Investor is doing, so running both costs you nothing beyond the second subscription.
Does QuantRidge manage my money?
No. QuantRidge is software, not a Registered Investment Adviser, broker or custodian. Brokerage connections are read-only — it can see positions and transactions but cannot trade or move money. Your money stays where it is.
