QuantRidge vs Boldin
Detailed retirement planning software, formerly NewRetirement, with a strong free tier.
What each one is for
Modelling a retirement in depth before you get there. The Roth conversion work and the level of detail you can specify are well ahead of most consumer tools, and the free tier is unusually generous.
Running a taxable portfolio with the tax consequences attached — cost basis across every account, wash-sale warnings before the repurchase, harvestable losses, Roth conversion room against bracket thresholds, and a Form 8949 your preparer can file from.
On pricing: Free tier available; the planning features most people want sit in the paid tier.
Choose Boldin if
Retirement is the question and you want to turn every dial yourself. It is one of the best things available for that.
We would rather say that here than have you find it out a month after subscribing to the wrong thing.
Where QuantRidge differs
Boldin models the plan. QuantRidge runs the account the plan is about — linked holdings, live tax lots, the realised gains that actually land on a return. The modelling matters more once it is reading real positions rather than figures you typed.
The thing Boldin cannot offer
Boldin has a long-established planning engine with an education business built around teaching it. That is a real asset, and it also means the model itself is close to immovable: changing how it reasons means retraining an audience.
QuantRidge is small enough that one person's problem can become a feature. The Founding 50 is built around exactly that: 50 accounts at $40/month for 12 months, in exchange for telling us what is missing. We build it and you watch it ship. Month 13 renews at $175, which we would rather say here than in a footnote.
Questions people ask
Is QuantRidge a replacement for Boldin?
Not always, and this page says where it is not. Retirement is the question and you want to turn every dial yourself. It is one of the best things available for that. If that describes you, Boldin is the better choice and plenty of people run both.
What does QuantRidge cost?
$175 a month for individuals, flat, with a 14-day free trial and no percentage of your assets. A limited Founding 50 offer is open: the next 50 approved accounts pay $40/month for 12 months, then renew at the $175 list price.
Can I run QuantRidge and Boldin together?
Yes, and for some people that is the right setup rather than a compromise. What Boldin is for: Modelling a retirement in depth before you get there. The Roth conversion work and the level of detail you can specify are well ahead of most consumer tools, and the free tier is unusually generous. QuantRidge connects to brokerages read-only and does not touch anything Boldin is doing, so running both costs you nothing beyond the second subscription.
Does QuantRidge manage my money?
No. QuantRidge is software, not a Registered Investment Adviser, broker or custodian. Brokerage connections are read-only — it can see positions and transactions but cannot trade or move money. Your money stays where it is.
